WHAT TO SEE in TRANI?

5 THINGS TO SEE in TRANI

Cathedral of Trani

It is the symbol of the city and what makes Trani the "Pearl of the Mediterranean". When in the 1400s and 1500s, during the Swabian dynasty, the ships returning from the Holy Land arrived in Trani, they were welcomed by this magnificent cathedral that almost seems to emerge from the sea. Dedicated to Nicola the Pilgrim and built with the white limestone of Trani, it is a real marvel for the eyes.

Swabian Castle of Trani

One of the most impressive fortifications built by Frederick II, located in a truly suggestive position, near the cathedral and close to the sea. Just think that Frederick II celebrated his wedding right here.

Port and Fort

The hub of Trani's nightlife is precisely the port, full of trendy clubs and with suggestive and unique corners. Here we also find the church of Ognissanti (which seems to be linked to the Templars) and the Palazzo Cccetto. At the end of the port you can walk to the wonderful fort by accessing the Villa di Trani, from which you can enjoy a unique view of the entire port and historic center.

Historical Center of Trani

In addition to the port, Trani has a really nice historic center, where the true history of the city is concentrated. Here you will see the beautiful buildings of Palazzo Surdo, Covelli and Lopez.

Jewish Quarter of Trani

Also in the historic center we find this particular neighborhood. In fact, once upon a time Trani, thanks also to Federico II, housed four synagogues which were later transformed into Catholic churches. Today we can see that of Scolanova, while another - the great synagogue - has been transformed into the museum of Sant'Anna.

TRAVEL TIPS about TRANI by World Mappers

  • Trani is wonderful in any season of the year. In addition to the many points of historical and cultural interest, it is famous for its nightlife. In summer on the Port you will find many places ready to make your evenings unique. In winter you move to the historic center, in the "Stradina", a narrow street full of clubs and very busy.

  • You cannot miss the opportunity to taste the typical local wine, Moscato di Trani, a sweet wine that can be served with a platter of cheeses or desserts.

  • In August, on the occasion of the Patronal Festival, the city is filled with celebrations and lights, with the extraordinary Apulian illuminations that illuminate the entire historic center and the unmissable fireworks event that makes all this even more magical.
