"Home is Where Art is". We cannot begin to tell you about the Altstadt Boutique Hotel in Vienna except with this sentence. Here, talking about a hotel is an understatement, it would be more appropriate to talk about a modern art museum and gallery.
That's right, the Altstadt Hotel is a hotel-museum where art is the protagonist. In fact, we can encounter works by great names such as Warhol, Leibovitz and Ringel (some of the collection of Otto E. Wiesenthal, owner of the hotel). It is a structure that over the years has grown to include the nearby buildings and this is perceived wandering around the hotel ... a beautiful and fascinating labyrinth of corridors and stairs that lead guests to completely different areas. one from the other.

Each room at the Altstadt Hotel (62 in total) is furnished by a different designer or architect, in a unique and original way according to the interpretation that the interior designer gives to Vienna and to that room. We were lucky enough to take a tour of the hotel with Saskia, daughter of the owner and manager of the property. With her we visited some of the rooms: all beautiful and different, each with its own style and history, just like every wing of the hotel. Jedes Zimmer im Altstadt Hotel (insgesamt 62) wird von einem anderen Designer oder Architekten auf einzigartige und originelle Weise eingerichtet, entsprechend der Interpretation, die der Innenarchitekt an Wien und diesem Zimmer gibt. The Lilli Hollein Suite (where we spent the first night), for example, is decorated in shades of yellow and gray. The wallpaper that represents a gray and stormy sky is immediately striking, which we discover to be the interpretation that the designer, Lilli Hollein, gives to the city of Vienna: a gray and cloudy background as often is the sky of Vienna, but at the same time comforting and welcoming, just like this beautiful city.
Die Lilli Hollein Suite (in der wir die erste Nacht verbracht haben) ist beispielsweise in Gelb- und Grautönen gehalten. Die Tapete, die einen grauen und stürmischen Himmel darstellt, fällt sofort auf. Wir stellen fest, dass dies die Interpretation ist, die die Designerin Lilli Hollein der Stadt Wien gibt: Ein grauer und wolkiger Hintergrund wie so oft der Himmel von Wien, aber gleichzeitig tröstlich und einladend, genau wie diese schöne Stadt.
Another suite that we fell in love with is the Felix Suite, a large and elegant room in dark tones with a beautiful vintage-style bathtub in the center. Simply a marvel! But the astonishment was the same every time a room door was opened.
Eine weitere Suite, in die wir uns verliebt haben, ist die Felix Suite, ein großer und eleganter Raum in dunklen Tönen mit einer wunderschönen Badewanne im Vintage-Stil in der Mitte. Einfach ein Wunder! Aber das Erstaunen war jedes Mal das gleiche, wenn eine Zimmertür geöffnet wurde.

One thing we really liked? Finding in one of the many corridors of the hotel a wall full of photographs of the staff of the Altstadt Hotel, thanks to which, as Saskia explains, the hospitality and success of this hotel would not be possible.

In the Salon of the hotel every morning a fantastic breakfast is served in spaces with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the same ones that welcome guests in the afternoon for tea time, with delicious homemade desserts. And if you feel like relaxing in the evening, just go up to the terrace to enjoy some tranquility among the rooftops of Vienna.
Im "Salon" des Hotels wird jeden Morgen ein fantastisches Frühstück in Räumen mit einer warmen und einladenden Atmosphäre serviert, die auch die Gäste am Nachmittag zur Teezeit mit köstlichen hausgemachten Desserts begrüßen. Und wenn ihr abends entspannen möchtet, geht einfach auf die Terrasse und genießt die Ruhe auf den Dächern Wiens.
