Le naturali venature (da qui il nome) del legno di origine africana ci hanno ricordato i nostri viaggi nella savana e il senso di tranquillità che provavamo osservando le mandrie di zebre al pascolo. Un orologio dalle linee semplici, pulite ma di grande fascino ed eleganza. Perfetto per chi, come noi, sempre in giro e in movimento vuole al polso qualcosa di pratico e comodo (la leggerezza del legno è impressionante) ma, allo stesso momento, adatto anche alle occasioni più ricercate. Un laboratorio artigianale dove ancora oggi si realizzano a mano maschere di cartapesta, seguendo l'antica tradizione dei mascherieri risalente al 1100, e bellissimi costumi d'epoca di carnevale. Il negozio di maschere e l'atelier si trovano entrambi in Campo San Tomà, uno a poca distanza dall'altro. Arriviamo al negozio e veniamo calorosamente accolti dalla simpatia della signora Rossella che ci illustra la storia dell'Atelier e ci fa scoprire qualche segreto sulle maschere esposte (saremmo stati ore ad ascoltarla). Questa maschera non veniva usata solo a carnevale ma anche in varie occasioni durante l'anno, quando si voleva mantenere l'anonimato. Il passato della Serenissima è ricco di leggi che consentivano o limitavano l'uso delle maschere. Una parte di storia veneziana che ignoravamo e che ci ha affascinato moltissimo. All'interno del negozio ci troviamo circondati da centinaia di maschere, dalle più semplici alle più ricercate e sontuosamente decorate. Uno spettacolo davvero bellissimo. La nostra visita è proseguita poi al vero e proprio atelier dove abbiamo trovato ad attenderci centinaia di costumi, tutti realizzati rigorosamente a mano e accompagnati da parrucche, scarpe coordinate e chi più ne ha più ne metta. PRODOTTI / PRODUCTS : Sono più di 500 i modelli di maschere disponibili presso il negozio, a partire dalle tradizionali maschere di carnevale, passando per quelle della commedia d'arte e quelle più moderne. Tutte le maschere vengono create seguendo il metodo antico e tradizionale della carta pesta. Strati di carta, farina e acqua come collante e stampi di gesso fatti a mano, sono questi i tre segreti per la realizzazione di vere e proprie opere d'arte. Dopo l'asciugatura, un lavoro di rifinitura con carta abrasiva rende le superfici adatte alla decorazione. Ed è proprio qui che semplici maschere bianche prendono vita. Anche in questa fase si usano antiche tecniche tradizionali come lo "stucco", l'applicazione di foglia d'oro e d'argento, colori acrilici, decoupage e sfumature antiche con bitume, finendo con macramè, perle, passamanerie e piume naturali. Welcome to Atelier Nicolao! Ci troviamo nel cuore del sestiere di Cannaregio, nella parte nord di Venezia. Arrivati al civico 2590, suoniamo al grande portone ed entriamo (l'emozione era davvero tanta). Si apre davanti a noi un immenso atelier di mille mq con al suo interno una sartoria, lo show room e tutta la collezione di vestiti creati da Nicolao e dai suoi collaboratori. Appena varcata la soglia d'ingresso veniamo accolti da una moltitudine di abiti colorati che sembrano delle vere e proprie opere d'arte. Dal 1983 l'Atelier Nicolao è diventato simbolo ed espressione del Made in Italy a livello mondiale, esportando la propria passione e le proprie creazioni in tutto il mondo. PRODUZIONE / PRODUCTION : Attraverso un percorso nella storia del costume, abbiamo avuto l'occasione di poter toccare con mano più di 14 mila abiti pregiati e spettacolari. Ma non ci sono solo gli abiti: la collezione Nicolao è completata da accessori, biancheria, mantelli e copricapi. Una vera meraviglia per gli occhi. L'arte sartoriale, la conoscenza tecnica e il rispetto per la tradizione sono i punti di forza di questa realtà. Per Nicolao il costume è storia, e la storia è costume, occorre rispettare il loro legame unico e, attraverso la creazione di nuovi modelli, dare voce al passato. Gli spazi dell'atelier sono davvero enormi (un fatto del tutto straordinario per Venezia). Saliamo in sartoria, il posto dove vengono create le opere d'arte che ci circondano. Qui ad aspettarci troviamo alcuni vestiti tra i quali una giacca creata per la seconda stagione della serie televisiva Outlander. Saliamo ancora di un piano ed eccoci immersi tra migliaia di abiti, appesi su più altezze e tutti catalogati per periodo storico d'appartenenza, una moltitudine di colori e tessuti che ci lascia senza parole. Rimaniamo davvero ammaliati da quello che vediamo, mentre Stefano Nicolao ci presenta le sue "creature".
